Aspire to be a Space Scientist? Start here.
This track is a combination of 4 challenges. Designed for students enrolled in grades 9 and above, this track immerses students into the world of space science as they explore various technological, economics and policy related questions.
1️⃣Building Rockets
Driving Question: What materials can withstand high heat to help us design rockets that can return to the Earth without burning up in the atmosphere?
About the Dataset: Students will use a dataset that includes information about the thermal properties (like thermal conductivity, specific heat capacity, etc.) of various well known and less known materials. Try playing with the dataset below (works best on a PC/laptop).
2️⃣Destination Mars
Driving Question: How close are we to setting up colonies on our nearest neighboring planet, Mars? What does our past tell us about our chances of success in achieving this lofty goal?
About the Dataset: Students will use a dataset that includes historical data on all the missions to Mars from 1960 to 2013.
